Eco-Challenge Pacuare River & Caribbean

Ecotourism is responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people. Our Eco-Adventures are our most favorite trips to operate because we get the chance to get completely immersed in the natural world and show off some of Costa Rica's most amazing species and that is the people. This also allows us to educate those from abroad on the importance of sustainable living and commitment to conservation.

This is an eco-challenge adventure for those that want to be out in the elements all day everyday of their Costa Rica Adventure. The trip will not be using any motorized vehicles except for arrival and departure day and final day transfer to the Caribbean. Your mode of transportation will consist of mountain biking, hiking, horseback, rappeling & rafting. This is a medium strenuous trip. We start at a high elevation and make our way down.

Day 1 ------------ Arrive & Drive to Sanchiri Hotel (Sanchiri Hotel)

Here your private adventure guide and driver will meet you at the airport. You will make the drive to the Sanchiri Hotel which is located about 40 minutes from the capital city of San Jose. Here you will have a welcome dinner and orientation to get you ready for the eco-challenge. The hotel you will be staying at has amazing views of the Orosi Valley below with cool mountain weather as this trip starts at a higher elevation and we make our way down. (Meals: Dinner)

Day 2 ------------- Bike to River Pejibaye & Raft Duckies to Casa Turire Hotel (Casa Turire)

We will be getting up early having breakfast and then on the bikes. Today we will be biking down back mountain roads surrounded with views of volcanos. We will be making some stops along the way in little towns. We will arrive to the Pejibaye river which is a class II river. Here we will have lunch prepared for you and some time to get ready for the duckie adventure. We will leave the bikes here. From here everyone will have their own small raft we call duckies. It is now up to you to raft yourself through the class II rapids of the Pejibaye River. Your guides will be with you and it is a great adventure. The river ends at your next hotel which is Casa Turire. The river dumps into a small lake which you will have to row across to get to some of the nicest hotel rooms in all of Costa Rica for a nice relaxing evening in the hot-tubs. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 3 --------------  Horseback, Waterfall Rappel, Dinner in Village and Hike to Hotel (Hacienda Tayutic)

Today we will leave the Casa Turire hotel by horseback and make our way to a nearby waterfall. The ride on horseback is on some of Costa Rica's fittest horses and they make the job relatively easy for you. When we arrive to the waterfall it is time to set up the gear and get ready for a rappel down this 100ft waterfall. This is a chance to get the adrenaline rushing a bit and walk over the edge and rappel down. From here we send the horses back and we hike to the next hotel. This will be about a 2 mile hike to the Hacienda Tayutic where we will enjoy dinner in a local village on the hike back and see some of the culture of the Costa Rican people. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 4 -------------- Plant Trees to Off-set flight, Educating tour on sustainability,  & Bike to La Cruz Camp-site on River Pacuare (Camp on River Pacuare)

Today it is time to get back on the bikes. But before we take off on the bikes we will be planting some trees to offset your flight. We will also use this day to educate a little bit on the importance of the tropics and our commitment to conservation. We will leave after breakfast and then make the 20 km bike ride through rolling hills of views of the smoking Turrialba Volcano. This is a beautiful bike ride and when we arrive to the camp-site at the side of the river you will have the afternoon to just enjoy being in the jungle. We will take some nature hikes around the area and just enjoy the river. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 5 ---------------  Raft to Second Pacuare Tent Camp (Camp on River Pacuare)

Today we will have breakfast ready for you when you wake up and then get ready for a day of rafting. We will take on some class II and III rapids today as we head a little less than half way down and arrive to the Pacuare Tent Camp. This is a special place and is surrounded by jungle. Here we will stay the night and have some more great meals prepared for you. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 6 --------------- Raft Class IV Rapids of Pacuare & Rappel Waterfalls (Third Camp Site Pacuare)

Here we will head out after breakfast and then enjoy some of the rivers best rapids. We will pass large waterfalls and canyons. We will also be stopping along the way to take out the equipment and set up another waterfall rappel. After the rappel we will head to the third river campsite which has stunning views of the river down stream. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 7 ---------------- Raft Final Canyon & Drive to Beach (Caribbean Beach Hotel Almonds & Corals)

Today we will raft the final canyon of Pacuare River and take out in a small town called Siquirres. Here we will load up into our transportation and you will be taken with your guides to the Caribbean side where you will spend two nights in a beautiful Caribbean Beach Eco-lodge called Almonds & Corals Hotel. This is one of the finest ecolodges in the country with a full commitment to sustainability. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 8 ----------------- Snorkeling the Reefs of the Caribbean (Almonds & Corals)

We do have one last adventure for you and that is snorkeling. The Caribbean side of Costa Rica has some of the most diverse marine habitats and we feel it is becoming more and more important to share and show what we are losing daily. The Coral reefs around the world are not going to exist in years to come if we keep traveling the way we have been traveling. It is through this itinerary that you will have proved that there are ways of traveling that have much less of an impact on our environment and positive impacts on local people. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 9 ------------------- Drive back to San Jose (Airport Hotel)

Today we will make the drive back from the Caribbean side and you will be staying at a hotel near the airport. Here can start talking about your amazing adventure and the importance of conserving the natural beauties we all share and need as a planet to stay healthy. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)
